The September 22, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Kole Calhoun closing in on his first Gold Glove award, Angel playoff tickets going on sale, and more…

The Story:  Kole Calhoun a favorite to win 2015 Gold Glove

MWAH Says:  This comes as no surprise to Angel fans who have been enjoying the diving catches and rocket launch throws to the infield from the Red Baron for the last few years.  Kole currently leads all American League right fielders with 320 putouts (the Rangers’ Choo is second with 290) and is third with 10 assists.

The Story:  Angels to begin selling playoff tickets on Thursday

MWAH Says:  Dream big Halo Honks.

The Story:  Former Angel Kendrys Morales hit three home runs and a triple on Sunday

MWAH Says:  If those Angel playoff tickets you buy on Thursday turn out to be unusable, you might want to spend the playoffs rooting for former Angels like Kendrys Morales who had fifteen (!) total bases on Sunday.  A brief primer for the younger fans:  Morales joined the 2002 Cuban national baseball team as pitcher/first baseman and hit a grand slam to help defeat Taiwan 6-3 in the 2003 World Cup championship game.  After several attempts that sometimes resulted in jail time, Morales was able to defect from Cuba in 2004.  He signed with the Angels and in 2009 had one of the best seasons ever by an Angel first baseman, hitting 34 home runs with a 139 OPS+.

The Story:  Angels won’t be pursuing any of the big money free agents this off-season

MWAH Says:  It is going to take one more season to get the budget under control, and that’s too bad since there are going to be some big time free agent outfield bats available in a few weeks that the Angels could use to plug into left field and the anemic batting order.  The article states that a second tier option the Angels may be willing to pursue is Met second baseman Daniel Murphy, whose 107 OPS+ this year handily beats Johnny Giavotella’s 89 OPS+.
