The March 9, 2016 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Garrett Richards lighting up the radar gun, another pitching prospect relocating to minor league camp, and more…

The Story: Richards hits 100 mph twice in second spring outing

MWAH Says: I guess his arm is feeling pretty good. Either that or the gun in Scottsdale was a little hot. Even with the uptick in velocity, Richards didn’t have a great outing. He’s now allowed five runs in two brief spring starts (4⅔ IP). Still a few weeks to get everything going right.

The Story: Kyle McGowin reassigned to minor league camp

MWAH Says: The young right-hander appeared in two Tempe games, allowing five runs and six hits in 2⅔ IP. Not a great Cactus League debut, but at least he got some reps.

The Story: Huston Street expected to make his spring debut Thursday

MWAH Says: Street has been dealing with a minor left calf issue, so the team’s been taking it slow with him. He threw a sim game on Tuesday and should get a “real” inning against the D’Backs tomorrow.

The Story: Winter is leaving: Los Angeles Angels

MWAH Says: BP’s season preview for the Halos focuses on how the team has two legitimate stars at the top end of the defensive spectrum and average-ish guys elsewhere, and how that could either end up being great or bad for them.

The Story: The Angels, Nationals, and supplementing generational talent

MWAH Says: Sometime MWAH contributor Justin Millar takes a look at how the Halos and Nats have approaching building around Mike Trout and Bryce Harper, respectively, concluding that Washington’s done the better job thus far.

The Story: Should spring training be shortened?

MWAH Says: Yeah, probably. But can they convince teams and cities to do away with a week or more’s worth of revenue? Not gonna be easy.

The Story: Top pitching prospect Julio Urias to start vs. Angels on Friday

MWAH Says: Saw Urias start a game in San Bernardino last year. Dude is incredible for his age. Dodgers are lucky to have him.
