The March 18, 2016 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes A.J. Achter making a strong impression in camp, the Angels fulfilling the wish of a heart transplant survivor, and more…

The Story: A.J. Achter finally shows the Angels his good stuff

MWAH Says: The Halos apparently lit Achter up when he pitched for the Twins last season, so he’s probably glad he doesn’t have to face them anymore. He’s putting together a strong spring thus far—1 R and 8 K in 7 IP—but he’s still something of a long shot to make the bullpen out of camp. His main competition is Al Alburquerque and Deolis Guerra, neither of whom can be optioned. The Angels would also need to make room on the 40-man roster for Achter should they call him up.

The Story: Mike Trout, Angels make wish come true for Arizona teen

MWAH Says: Love stuff like this. Brett Wallick received a life-saving heart transplant two years ago, and Wednesday he got the opportunity to meet his favorite player (Trout, naturally) and throw out the game’s first pitch.

The Story: Bud Black happy to be back with the Angels

MWAH Says: Well of course he’s going to say that. He’s not gonna be like, “This is hell. I wish I was managing the Nationals.” Not to say he isn’t actually happy, just that it’s the only answer he’d ever give a reporter. Anyway, Black is apparently working with Angels pitchers in major- and minor-league sides of camp this spring, which is good to hear.

The Story: LA Times’ parent company acquires OC Register in bankruptcy auction

MWAH Says: I had no idea the OC Register was even close to bankruptcy. Weird. Not sure what this means for the future of the paper, but you can bet it’ll be awhile before everything is sorted out. The U.S. Department of Justice immediately filed a lawsuit Thursday to block the deal on antitrust grounds.

The Story: Torii Hunter on data-free outfield defense

MWAH Says: Hunter doesn’t believe that data is helpful but thinks positioning is critical. Sure, that’s not contradictory at all…

The Story: Adam LaRoche controversy creating internal clash for White Sox

MWAH Says: This is just the weirdest story. Can’t get over that LaRoche’s son was in the clubhouse literally every game day for YEARS. Seems a little much.
