The April 5, 2016 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Garrett Richards keeping his head up after a disappointing Opening Day start, C.J. Wilson waiting another month before pitching, and more…
The Story: Garrett Richards “not discouraged at all” despite rough fourth inning Monday
MWAH Says: Good to hear. There was far more to be encouraged by in his performance than discouraged. Everything Richards was throwing last night was electric—especially his slider and his new change-up—and his velocity was top-notch. That he couldn’t place any of his pitches for an inning is unfortunate, but it’s not the end of the world.
The Story: C.J. Wilson still a month away from pitching again
MWAH Says: Wilson failed a shoulder strength test administered by team doctors over the weekend, so he’s timetable remains indefinite. Once he passes that test, which he says he’s making progress on, he’ll essentially complete his own little spring training before returning to the team. Just what role will be available to him when he does return is up in the air. For his part, C.J. says he’s open to relieving.
The Story: Mike Trout is finally moving out of his parents’ house
MWAH Says: Mike and his three-legged dog are making the big move out of his childhood home to go all the way….down the street. Trout apparently bought a home on 300 acres “just minutes away from his parents’ place.” He obviously loves Milville and being close to family so there’s no reason for him to go elsewhere.
The Story: Roberto Baldoquin will repeat High-A to begin the year
MWAH Says: I would have been shocked if they’d sent him anywhere else. Yes, the original plan was for him to be close to MLB-ready at this point, but he’s nowhere close to there. If he tears it up in the Cal League now that he’s healthy, then push him up the ladder. But until that happens, no reason to push it.
The Story: Yunel Escobar grateful for lessons learned from Joe Maddon
MWAH Says: “He had no idea that what he had written on his eye black was offensive.” Ehhhh, I have a pretty hard time believing that one, Joe.
The Story: Bryce Harper sports a ‘Make Baseball Fun Again’ hat post-game
MWAH Says: I want that hat.
