The April 20, 2016 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Andrew Heaney hitting an impasse in his recovery, new prospect Jose Briceno turning heads at High-A, and more…

The Story: Heaney hits plateau in forearm strain recovery

MWAH Says: The left-hander is still experiencing tightness when he puts any oomph on his throws, so he’s going to be shut down for a bit. This isn’t great news, obviously, but it isn’t worst-case scenario either. Hopefully with a little more rest and recovery time, his forearm will heal itself.

The Story: Overlooked ‘other guy’ in Andrelton Simmons trade is turning heads at High-A

MWAH Says: Jose Briceno is sharing time behind the dish at Inland Empire with top prospect Taylor Ward, but it’s Briceno that’s put up the stronger numbers thus far. The 23-year-old is batting .295/.380/.432 through 50 plate appearances in his second tour through High-A ball, which despite his advanced age should start putting him back on the prospect scene. Briceno put up similar lines in his first few years of affiliated ball, but dropped off the radar a bit last season after hitting .183/.215/.267.

The Story: Todd Cunningham off to strong start at Salt Lake

MWAH Says: Cunningham is hoping he can impress the Angels’ “new eyes” enough to get significant playing time in Anaheim, after becoming a sort of forgotten man in Atlanta’s system. With Daniel Nava out and Craig Gentry struggling, Cunningham is highly probable to get at least some opportunity with the big-league club. Let’s hope he can make the most of it.

The Story: Steve Martone enjoying new role as assistant GM

MWAH Says: One of the few guys Billy Eppler brought with him from New York. Not much to this one.

The Story: Yunel Escobar will be signing autographs in Santa Ana on Friday

MWAH Says: Looks like a thing set up through AM830. The first 200 to arrive will get “wristbanded and [be] guaranteed an autograph.”
