Former Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark has spent time with the Washington Redskins and in the Canadian Football League, and now his professional barnstorming tour continues in the United Football League. Clark is one of 70 players participating in training camp with the Omaha Nighthawks. Clark was not drafted in the 2011 UFL Draft but has been invited to participate in training camp, which opened camp this week.
Clark signed with Omaha Wednesday and attended camp on Thursday if I strung together some of his Twitter updates correctly.
Omaha went 3-5 in their inaugural season in the UFL. This season Omaha’s training camp includes a number of players college football fans will remember, such as Clark’s competition at quarterback. Omaha recently signed former Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch, who figures to be a bit of a hometown favorite since he played his college football at Nebraska. The Nighthawks also have former Oregon and Ole Miss quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and former Georgia quarterback D.J. Shockley on the roster.
Omaha also has guys like former troubled Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett, who made headlines last season by signing with the expansion franchise.
We’ll keep tabs on the former Nittany Lion as he works to build his professional football career. One thing is for sure, Clark will be tasked with representing Penn State in new Big Ten territory with Nebraska joining the Big Ten this season.
The Nighthawks open up their 2011 season on the road on August 14 when they play at the Sacramento Mountain Lions, coached by Dennis Green.
