Penn State redshirt freshman OT Tom Ricketts has decided to leave the football program, and will travel west down the Turnpike to play for Pitt, according to Pantherlair.com
Ricketts, whose parents were both Panther athletes, was the 28th best OT prospect in the class of 2010, according to his Scout.com profile. He had an offer originally from Pittsburgh, but committed to the Nittany Lions in December of 2009.
Ron Musselman, who talked to Ricketts today, wrote that he was feeling homesick and that things were not working out in Happy Valley:
“I just signed the papers — everything’s official,” Ricketts said today. “It just wasn’t working for me at Penn State. I was homesick. I made the decision to go there when I was 17.”
The 6’6”, 285-pound Ricketts, who attended North Allegheny High School, will have to sit out a year until he is eligible to play for the Panthers.
