Olney (MD) Good Counsel produces top high school football talent year in and year out, including current Penn State DB Mike Wallace. Well, 2013 will not lead to a drop-off in talent from the institution. We have already brought you DB Kirk Garner and OLB Reggie McGee, and today we have two-way stand-out Dorian O’Daniel.
“I currently hold seven [offers] from Pittsburgh, Virginia, North Carolina State, Purdue, Syracuse,Ohio, and Maryland,” he told NittanyLionsDen.com in a recent interview. He added that they are all showing equal interest “because I really haven’t talked to too many coaches this off season.”
It may be early, but O’Daniel already knows some of the schools he likes. “Alabama, Oklahoma,Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Florida State,” he said when asked about who he was most interested in.
Still, it is not too late for Penn State to get in the mix with the athlete. “I don’t know too much about Penn State. I’m originally a Pittsburgh native so I grew up around a lot of Nittany and Panther pride,” he said, adding that, “I wouldn’t mind getting familiar [with the Penn State program].”
When it does come time for a decision though, O’Daniel knows what he is looking for. “First and foremost, a strong academic program, followed by surroundings and where I feel most comfortable; then playing time. Having a strong coaching staff is definitely a plus, but a coaching staff could be replaced at anytime, so that factor isn’t too high.”
So far throughout high school Dorian has only played at running back, but that is about to change. “I also be playing outside linebacker this year,” he noted.
What is it about the Maryland athlete that has programs asking for his services? “I’ve been told I have good vision, [and] I think my running style separates me. It’s balanced, not leaned to power nor speed. It’s equal.”
Dorian self-reports himself at 6’1″ and 197 lbs. He claims a 4.55 forty, 405 squat and 275 bench.
