It wasn’t a surprise when it was announced. The Penn State depth chart, released Monday afternoon, lists the starting quarterback as Rob Bolden OR Matt McGloin, with Shane McGregor listed as the third-string quarterback.
Look for both quarterbacks to use week one against Indiana State as an open audition for the starting nod moving forward, starting with week two against Alabama. Personally, I feel this is a fine decision for Penn State. It never felt as though one player was elevating himself over the other in camps, so giving the two players a chance to compete for the job against some opposing defensive players rather than their teammates, with a real pressure to succeed resting on their shoulder pads should tell us what we can exect from each player.
