Bloguin Heisman Poll: Russell Wilson moving up

george_washington

As we enter the month of October and conference play starts up nationwide, let’s take a look at the Heisman picture. We’re looking for the best all-around players who have accomplished the most on the field. In the Big Ten there is one player in particular who has taken the country by storm and has soared up the Heisman ladder

The guys from College Football Zealots once again are tabulating the votes and posting the results on Crystal Ball Run. Here is Nittany Lion’s Den‘s ballot for this week.

1. QB Andrew Luck, Stanford

The preseason favorite may not have outlandish numbers but that is partly because Stanford has not needed him to play a complete game this season. The Cardinal have blown out each of their opponents, taking the need to utilize Luck to the full potential at a bare minimum. Still, Luck has over 1,000 passing yards and 11 touchdowns after just four games. I’m looking for Luck to put up some solid numbers this weekend against Colorado. November 12 (Oregon) can’t get here soon enough for me.

2. QB Russell Wilson, Wisconsin (pictured)

We knew all along that Russell Wilson was the missing ingredient for Wisconsin this season, but the question I always had was what would he do against some of the tougher Big Ten defenses this season? Well, if Saturday’s shellacking of Nebraska was any indication, the rest of the Big Ten should watch out because Wilson is on fire. Wilson passed for 255 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for one more score in Wisconsin’s most impressive win of the season. So far this season Wilson has 13 touchdowns and just one interception and he is completing 74.8% of his passes.

3. RB Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina

You know I am a huge Marcus Lattimore fan, so if a running back is going to win this award I just don’t see it being anyone but Lattimore. I know his performance against Auburn was mediocre at best but even the best players have one down game in a season. We’re looking for overall production here though and as far as running backs go, few match what Lattimore does. Right now Lattimore is second in the nation in rushing, behind Pittsburgh’s Ray Graham, and his nine touchdowns are tied for fifth in the nation, four behind Wisconsin’s Montee Ball. I look for a big bounce-back performance for Lattimore this weekend against Kentucky.

Others on the radar: QB Kellen Moore (Boise State), QB Robert Griffin III (Baylor), RB Trent Richardson (Alabama), QB Denard Robinson (Michigan), QB Landry Jones (Oklahoma), RB LaMichael James (Oregon)
