The 2012 Penn State Ice Hockey Alumni Weekend will take place on February 10 and 11. The weekend will be dedicated to honoring the storied history and looking towards the exciting future of Penn State Hockey.
The weekend will kick off on Friday (Feb. 10) when the Icers play host to Mercyhurst at 7 p.m. On Saturday (Feb. 11), there will be an Alumni Game at 1 p.m., followed by the Icers taking on Mercyhurst again at 3:30 p.m. The Cocktail Reception will be held at the Nittany Lion Inn starting at 6:30 p.m. and eventually lead into the Dinner/Alumni Banquet at 7:30 p.m. Attire for the Reception and Banquet is business casual.
Registration is just $50 per person and includes tickets to Saturday’s game against Mercyhurst and the Reception/Dinner at the Nittany Lion Inn. Please RSVP by Monday, February 6th, 2012.
The Icers will also be inducting seven members into their Hall Of Fame during the weekend:
Linda Jordan, an Icers Booster Club Member since 1998, has worked with the day-to-day operations of the Booster Club’s merchandising.
Steve Penstone, the Icers Play-by-Play Announcer since 2002, has used video webcasts to provide some of the best broadcasting in the ACHA.
As Head Coach from 2006-2011, Scott Balboni amassed 150 wins during his tenure. He was named ACHA Coach of the Year in 2007 and ESCHL Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2010.
Forward Dick Merkel played for the Icers from 1971-1972. He was the first captain in the Icers’ history, and scored 18 goals and added 10 assists in 19 career games.
A defenseman from 1998-2002, Scott Curry was one of only a handful of Icers to wear the “C” for two seasons. In his four years at Penn State, he played on three ACHA National Championship teams.
Curtiss Patrick, a defenseman from 2000-2004, scored the game-winning goal against Illinois in the 2002 ACHA National Championship Game. He is the Icers all-time leader in penalty minutes.
Current Director of Hockey Operations Billy Downey played for the Icers from 2000-2004, recording more than 100 career points. He also served as a Penn State Assistant Coach from 2009-2010.
