Cup of Joe [5.3.2012] – LaVar Arrington says good bye to Junior Seau

The football world lost a legend yesterday with the tragic loss of Junior Seau, widely regarded as one of the top linebackers of his era. The former USC Trojan linebacker inspired many who played the position, including Penn State’s own LaVar Arrington.

Penn State donated bowl money to child protection and anti-rape groups. This was expected, but still the right thing to do.

Big Ten games in early September? It’s happened before, but ESPN.com’s Adam Rittenberg says it could be a possibility in the future if schools decide to move games up in their schedule. I personally like the idea and see no real problems with it. It gives fans a meaningful game in September and opens the door for a possible late season non-conference match-up. Could that lead to Big Ten schools making like the SEC and ACC in scheduling rivalry games in November? Knowing the Big Ten’s mantra, probably not.

Remember, Penn State’s first Big Ten game in program history, against Minnesota in 1993, was played in week one. So was the 1994 season opener at Minnesota.

Penn State kicked off their Penn State Caravan in th Philadelphia area on Monday. You can catch Bill O’Brien’s Philadelphia media session and Drexel Hill joint press conference, as well as a brief reaction from Adam Taliaferro. Philadelphia’s ABC affiliate (WPVI, 6 ABC) did a feature story on O’Brien for the evening news. While in the area, O’Brien also spoke to Comcast Sportsnet in Philadelphia.
