Wisconsin held off Penn State for their first tournament victory in the Collegiate Rugby Championships. After playing to a draw with Temple in the second match of the day, Wisconsin held on for a 19-17 victory against Penn State.
Wisconsin opened the scoring with a Zachary Arostegui try and Jordan Heginbottom conversion. After Penn State picked up five points on their first try of the game, Wisconsin’s Joel Cohen scored a late try and conversion before the half to put the Badgers up 14-5. The lead was opened up to 19-5 in the second half with a Heginbottom try, and Penn State’s late rally fell short of knotting things up.
Penn State drops to 0-2 today, and will hope to pick up their first win of the tournament later this afternoon. Penn State plays Temple in Match 15, at 3:20. The Owls are also looking for their first win of the day. Temple lost to LIFE 33-7 in the match prior to Penn State-Wisconsin.
Wisconsin will take on LIFE, who is 2-0 after their dominating victory against Temple. That will be Match 16, scheduled for 3:43.
