LaVar Arrington took to his column on WashingtonPost.com once again yesterday to share his feelings on the latest developments regarding Penn State and the upcoming release of the Freeh report. Simply put, Arrington is somewhat skeptical of the magnitude of the report following the leaks of some of the emails that have placed a national bullseye on the program, fairly or not.
Arrington makes a few fair points in his latest column, including this one here:
The information in these e-mails — that Curley changed his mind about reporting a 2001 allegation against Sandusky after talking to Paterno — is very compelling, but why is the public seeing one piece of evidence before the entire report is released?
I’m thinking these e-mails were leaked to draw attention away from what could be a very ho-hum final report. It seems like with Sandusky being convicted and civil suits on the way, the university is looking to isolate the blame.
We will know for sure, for better or worse, soon enough. Whatever is contained in the Freeh report, let’s see it so we can end all speculation (or not) and move on.
In light of a recent report by CNN, which essentially digs up dirt uncovered months ago, here is a timeline of Vicky Triponey’s Timeline of Terror, via Safeguard Old State.
I will say this. The Freeh report may in fact show us all a side of Joe Paterno nobody once thought was possible (it also may not shed anything we did not already know about the man, to be fair). Suggesting that Paterno may have played a role in the (still legally speaking) alleged Sandusky cover up based on his desire to have more control over punishing his own players, seems to be a bit of a stretch. A coach wanting to have more control over disciplining his players all of a sudden is a bad thing?
There is still plenty of information needed to properly and fairly evaluate what Paterno did or did not do in all of his. Anything suggesting otherwise given the information that has been revealed would not be responsible for anybody.
If Paterno turns out to be a slime ball then it will be a tough pill to swallow. Looking strictly at facts and what has been reported, we have not reached that point…yet.

Penn State running back Silas Redd was named to the Maxwell Award watch list and linebacker Gerald Hodges was named to the Bednarik Award watch list. Both awards are represented by the Maxwell Football Club in Philadelphia and Penn State has a solid history with each award. No school has had more winners of each award than Penn State. Penn State has seven Maxwell Award winners and four Bednarik Award winners. Will Redd or Hodges add to that legacy?
Today the watch lists for the Rimington Trophy (best center) and John Mackey Award (best tight end) will be unveiled. Will any Penn State players be listed?

Speaking of tight ends (awesome transition), Class of 2013 commit Adam Breneman will undergo surgery today. Breneman suffered a torn ACL during a seven-on-seven drill recently and will sit out his senior season of high school football. Breneman should be ready to play in 2013 for Penn State given the likely timeline for rehab.

Urban Meyer seems to have made the right call in dismissing linebacker Storm Klein. Klein is accused of assaulting the mother of his child, according to 10 TV in central Ohio.
Michigan recruit Shane Morris (quarterback) was one of many participants at Nike’s The Opening to be featured in a segment produced by ESPN. The piece featured recruits sharing their impressions of coaches they have come across during their recruitment process. Morris shared his impression of Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio, which upset some Spartan fans. C’mon Sparty, it was a joke! As if nobody form Michigan State ever did an impression of a Wolverine, Buckeye, Badger or Nittany Lion before. Anyway, Morris took the high road and apologized on Twitter.

Madtown Badgers wants to know what is holding Wisconsin back from national title consideration. A couple Hail Marys and a defense not ready to take on top offenses could be a starting point.
NCAA Football 13 is out. How many virtual mythical championships will you lead Penn State to in dynasty mode? Or will you place Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III on the team to see what the offense would have been like with a legitimate quarterback solution?
