Happy birthday Ki-Jana Carter!

One of the best running backs to wear a Penn State uniform, Ki-Jana Carter, celebrates a birthday today. Carter has his name on a few Penn State records, including the most 100-yard rushing games in a season (nine, 1994), rushing touchdowns in a half (four, vs. Michigan State in 1994), rushing yards by a junior (1,539, 1994) and career rushing average (7.2 ypa).

Carter’s junior year remains the third best single-season rushing performance by a Nittany Lions tailback in program history, eclipsed only by Larry Johnson’s 2,087 yards in 2002 and Lydell Mitchell’s 1,567 yards in 1971. If only Carter had been used late in a number of those 1994 games that were decided early enough to use some other players, Carter would be guaranteed to be at least second on the single season rushing list for Penn State today.

One of the highlights of Carter’s career is unquestionably his first rushing attempt, and Penn State’s first offensive play, in the 1995 Rose Bowl. You know what happens, but let’s watch it anyway…
