Kinnick Stadium has long been a house of horrors for Penn State, but a new era of Penn State football seemed to overcome the past Saturday night. Penn State dominated Iowa and left with a 38-7 victory.
After the teams each handled the football once, Penn State was off to the races on the scoreboard. Matt McGloin threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter, quickly equaling the total number of Penn State passing touchdowns since the last time the Nittany Lions left Iowa with a win in 1999 (Zack Mills threw both touchdowns, with one in two separate games). A 31-yard pass to tight end Jesse James midway through the first quarter opened the scoring, and five minutes later McGloin connected with receiver Allen Robinson for an eight-yard touchdown pass.
Midway through the second quarter Penn State expanded their lead when Sam Ficken successfully kicked a 34-yard field goal to make it 17-0 in favor of the visiting Nittany Lions, and an 11-yard run by Bill Belton about 90 seconds later gave Penn State a 24-0 following an Iowa turnover.
