After a bitter loss to Big Ten rival Ohio State on Saturday night, the Nittany Lions now must turn their attention to Purdue.
The Boilermakers have lost 4 in a row and the rumors circulating about head coach Danny Hope losing his job may be coming to fruition. Purdue is coming off a 44-28 loss against the Minnesota Gophers and are in dire need of a victory.
Head coach Danny Hope made a move at quarterback after the loss to Minnesota. Robert Marve will replace Caleb Terbush who struggled heavily last weekend completing only 5 passes for under 50 yards.
The senior signal caller Marve, has faired well in 2012. He has thrown for 6 touchdowns to only 2 interceptions. Marve should handle the load of the offense as the Purdue running attack hasn’t generated much of a threat this year.
Akeem Shavers hasn’t rushed for over 100 yards in 2012 and has only accumulated 3 rushing touchdowns. The Penn State defense should take advantage of a struggling Purdue offense and have a solid game.
However Penn State is experiencing a loss for the first time since the 2nd week of the season.
After losing to Ohio on September 8th, the team and their fans have won 5 in a row making it look easy against their opponents. Bill O’Brien has captivated the college football world over the past few weeks. The Coach Of The Year Candidate has his Nittany Lions playing at a level no one saw possible a few short months ago.
Matt McGloin has led the offense week after week putting up new career highs in all categories. McGloin had a solid game against the undefeated Buckeyes completing 60 percent of his passes and throwing for 2 touchdowns. The senior has completed 16 passes for touchdowns this year and should
The rushing attack struggled mightily against the Buckeyes last weekend. Bill Belton and Zach Zwinak both had poor performances and need to get back on their feet this week. Part of what made the Nittany Lions so effective on offense is the balanced attack Bill O’Brien runs. The team needs to get back to that style of play against the Boilermakers this Saturday.
As the week goes on the job security for Danny Hope will make this game much more interesting. If the Head Coach loses his job, Penn State should walk into West Lafayette handle business and walk out with a win. Either way the Boilermakers will put up a fight and Penn State needs to be prepared.
