It is hard not to root for a guy like Michael Mauti. After battling back from a pair of ACL injuries to perform at the level he has during his Penn State career and to represent the football program at a time when true leadership was needed in the fashion he has this season it is no wonder he has become a fan favorite.
After going down with a knee injury in a win against Indiana, Mauti later returned to the sidelines on crutches, sitting on the bench as his teammates finished up a home win. As fans started making their way to the exits knowing a win was firmly in hand, many snapped a photo of the injured Mauti talking to teammates who came to huge and shake hands and offer words of encouragement. Many of those fans thanked Mauti for his commitment to the program and for everything he had done for Penn State football.
After the final seconds ticked off and Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson greeted Mauti with some positive thoughts and admiration, the team made their way to the student section for the new traditional post game alma mater, the students serenaded Mauti with their own words of appreciation.
