The 2012 season is in the books and college football’s award season is in full swing. This year I wanted to try something new during the early months of the off-season knowing there would be no bowl game for Penn State fans to be looking forward to. Introducing the (First Annual?) Penn State Fan Vote, where Penn State fans will get a chance to voice their picks for top moments, players, games, and more from the 2012 season.
The idea is simple. From now until December 19 you will have a chance to nominate your picks for a variety of categories related to the 2012 season. All nominations will be counted and finalists for each category will be revealed on Friday, December 21. We will then open voting for each award and announce the winners for each starting on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
Below are the categories you will be voting on this year. To submit a nominee you can either leave a comment in the comment section or send an email with your nominees using our Contact page. So start sending in your nominees now and spread the word!
Penn State Team MVP
Penn State Offensive Player of the Year
Penn State Defensive Player of the Year
Penn State Special Teams Player of the Year
Breakout Penn State Player of the Year
What player had the surprise season or made a name for himself, seemingly out of nowhere?
Penn State Play of the Year
What was the top highlight of the season? We are looking for one specific play.
Penn State Game of the Year
Win or lose, what was the top game of the season that has the best chance to be remembered for years to come?
Penn State Journalist of the Year
To differ from other postseason awards, we are looking for the top writer covering Penn State football of the year. All writers are eligible for nomination, whether for a newspaper, blog or other online media. Anyone associated with GoPSUSports.com will be considered ineligible for this award due to working for the school and athletic department.
Penn State Media Outlet of the Year
Separate from the Journalist of the Year award, what media organization is your go-to outlet for coverage of Penn State football? Is it a mainstream media outlet or a blog? You make the choice.
Penn State Tweeter of the Year
What Twitter user is a must follow for Penn State coverage or commentary? Nominees for Penn State Journalist of the Year are eligible for nomination here as well. Players are also eligible for nomination.
Speaking of Twitter, we’ll be providing updates on these postseason fan votes all month long, so be sure to be keeping up to date by following us @TheNLD.
