I love bobble heads, and so does America. I have a small collection of my favorite Phillies and other various athletes gathered in my home office. In the mix is a Joe Paterno and Nittany Lion bobble head next to a Mickey Mouse in a baseball uniform and a Nyjer Morgan Washington Nationals bobble head. I knew it would only be a matter of time before Bill O’Brien received the bobble head treatment and it appears that wait is now over. Sort of.
StateCollege.com reports this morning Penn State’s football coach will be the subject of an upcoming promotion by the State College Spikes, the minor league baseball team that plays home games across the street from Beaver Stadium. Minor league teams are always at the front of great promotions, and this one must have been one of the easiest to come up with.

O’Brien appears to have liked the idea as well.
“He loved the idea but did have two guidelines: he wanted to be wearing a baseball cap and did not want to be throwing a baseball,” Spikes Promotion Manager David Wells told StateCollege.com. O’Brien will also get his own copy before they are handed out to the first 1,500 fans in attendance.
The bobble heads will be given away to the first 1,500 fans who attend the August 28 home game against the Williamsport Crosscutters (A Philadelphia Phillies affiliate), which will also be THON night and just days prior to the Penn State football season kicking off in MetLife Stadium against Syracuse. Perfect timing and planning all around.
Now, how long until we start seeing Bill O’Brien bobble heads in Penn State attire being sold? I imagine Penn State wants to make sure he sticks around long enough to make the cost of producing O’Brien bobble heads – I’m calling them BOBleheads (patent pending) – worth it. If he is still coaching next year, it may be time to start selling these instant cash cow collectibles.
