Although he only had one year with them, Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien is happy for Penn State’s football players on their way to the NFL, whether it be by the draft or through free agent signings.
“Any time you coach guys, even though it was only for a year, and you see those guys’ dreams come true, that’s a neat thing for a coach and all of us who coached those guys,” O’Brien said to Comcast Sportsnet in Philadelphia during the second Penn State caravan stop on the day.
Linebackers Gerald Hodges and Michael Mauti were drafted by the Minnesota Vikings. Defensive tackle Jordan Hill was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks, where he will play with former Penn State quarterback-turned Pro Bowl running back Michael Robinson. After the draft a hand full of players were signed to undrafted free agent contracts. Corner back Stephon Morris and offensive lineman Matt Stankiewitch were signed by the New England Patriots. The Carolina Panthers added full back Michael Zordich. Offensive tackle Mike Farrell was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yesterday we learned that quarterback Matt McGloin is heading to the Washington Redskins.
“Couldn’t be happier for those guys,” O’Brien said. “I think those organizations picked some great kids and I think they’ll do real well.”
