Another day, another player heading to Penn State. Also, a lesson in social networking habits and a round-up from around the Big Ten and beyond. Put an extra spoonful of sugar in your Cup of Joe this morning. You’ve earned it.

Penn State recruiting updates

Following a day with two defensive linemen added to the Class of 2015, Penn State pulled in a tight end on Monday. Nick Bowers became recruit No. 23 in Penn State’s Class of 2015. This one was somewhat noteworthy because Bowers had been previously committed to Pitt. A coaching change in western PA turned out to be the tipping point for Bowers, who had been in contact with Penn State’s staff frequently despite his commitment to the Panthers.

Penn State making a push into western Pennsylvania is always a good sign, because there is some good talent to be found on that side of the state. Penn State now has two scholarships to offer in the Class of 2015. Let’s see how Franklin and the staff wrap up this recruiting class, the first under a full recruiting calendar for the staff at Penn State.

Be careful what you tweet

Always remember that anything you put out on social media will be seen by somebody. It is a pretty good, basic lesson in how to behave and use social media that can cost some people a job. Penn State sophomore safety Bryant Harper may not have to worry about that just yet, but he got a nice little reminder from James Franklin Monday about the importance of Success With Honor.

Two-Minute Drill

ESPN is pleading with the CFB Playoff to move next season’s playoff dates. CFB Playoff says no… UNC and Wake Forest will play two non-conference games in 2019 and 2021. Who would Penn State play if they did the same?… Michigan loses a running back to transfer… UCF adding a beach club to stadium… Penn State missed out on an OL transfer from Wake Forest… If you haven’t seen them yet, Baylor’s new gray football helmet… Athlon Sports checks out where teams found their starting QBs for 2015… Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon was pretty darn good… The AAC wants to make sure Temple doesn’t get left out of another bowl game… Neutral site games mean big paychecks… NAIA champion Southern Oregon is trying to raise money to buy the team championship rings. Why not spare a couple bucks if you can.

A quick “Thank-you”

I realize that my content on Nittany Lions Den has been sporadic at times over the past year, and for that I apologize. Shuffling multiple websites and responsibilities over at College Football Talk have, at times, kept me from updating this site the way I would have preferred. But moving forward I am making an attempt to rectify that, and I have gotten started with some of that effort once the calendar flipped to 2015. The results are already paying off in small doses.

There are a few reasons for that progress this month. Most of that is having the extra dedicated time reserved for updating the site, which has led to more content. But basically it always comes back to you, the reader. Some of you may have been following my coverage of Penn State football for years, others may be reading this for the first time. Whatever the case, I want to express my thanks to you for checking out my coverage and commentary on Penn State football. I enjoy doing it, and I am encouraged by the support I receive from you here, on Twitter, Facebook etc.

Thank you.
