In addition to a pair of verbal commitments for the Class of 2015 and Class of 2016 yesterday, Penn State reportedly will add another walk-on option from the junior college ranks. Per a report from Jeff Rice over at Lions 247, Josh McPhearson joined the program as a walk-on in January. He transferred from Nassau Community College and has two years of eligibility remaining.
Because McPhearson is not on a scholarship, I will omit his name from the scholarship distribution chart (which will be updated tomorrow to reflect this weekend’s recruiting updates). As noted by Rice, McPhearson played some running back in high school (DeMatha Catholic in Maryland). There seems to be some untapped potential with McPhearson as well, which is always good to see. Perhaps his flexibility as an offensive weapon could come in handy at some point. Whatever his role ends up being, this helps pad the depth a little bit on offense, and perhaps special teams.
