Going to the Maryland game? Hotel rooms in DC less than $100 per night

Penn State is traveling to Maryland on Wednesday where they will take on the #17 Terrapins in a Big Ten clash. The Nittany Lions started off their season in fine fashion, going 12-1 in their first 13 contests of the 2014/2015 season. Once the easy stretch of their schedule concluded and the Big Ten Conference play began they have struggled to get going and have posted a 2-7 record. Conversely, the Terrapins are currently second in the conference and are a game and half out of first place.

Getting in to see the Nittany Lions at the Xfinity Center in College Park is one of the cheaper tickets remaining on their away schedule. The minimum price for a ticket is $15 and the average price of admittance is just $31, according to TiqIQ.

With tickets so cheap, it’s certainly an opportunity for fans to make a road trip to see the Nittany Lions on the road. Right now, you can find Washington DC hotels with rooms for as little as $84 if you want to stay in the nation’s capital, located just a short drive away from College Park. You could also stay in one of the available hotels in Baltimore for just $75, though you’ll be a bit further away from the arena.

As far as flights into DC, anyone coming from the northeast will find airline tickets to cost less than $200 for most flights, and slightly more expensive from the Midwest. All-in-all, it’s possible to grab a ticket to the game, a plane ticket, and a hotel room for one night for less than $250.

This season is Maryland’s first in the Big Ten Conference, so the two teams have a very limited history. The two teams have faced off 17 times in total, but only five times in the past 25 years. Surprisingly, Maryland only holds a 9-8 advantage in the series, but the Nittany Lions have not won a game in this series since 1990, where they topped Maryland in the NIT.

Penn State’s senior guard, D.J. Newbill has been one of the best scorers in the country and many consider him to be a very underrated talent. His average of 21.5 points per game is the sixth highest in college basketball. Over the past four years his scoring record has improved season-to-season. However, Newbill is the only Penn State player who averages over 10 ppg.

Despite having a good season so far, the Terrapins enter Wednesday night’s contest on a low note. Maryland lost big to Ohio State by 24 points in an embarrassing display. However, the duo of freshman guard Melo Trimble and junior forward Jake Layman will be a handful for the Penn State defenders. Trimble averages a team-high 15.7 ppg while Layman contributes 14.1 ppg and 6.8 rebounds per game. Trimble has been streaky as of recent however. He scored 27 against Northwestern but in the big loss to Ohio State went 0-8 from the field and finished with just three points.
