Penn State opens the 2015 season in the city of Philadelphia against Temple, but on Sunday Penn State already won a prize in the City of Brotherly Love. Defensive tackle Karamo Dioubate of Philadelphia Prep Charter committed to the Nittany Lions on Sunday, adding a four-star player to the defensive line.
Dioubate is rated as a four-star talent according to the 247 Sports composite ranking. He is the fourth-best player in the state of Pennsylvania, again according to the 247 Sports composite ranking system, which plays into James Franklin attempting to dominate the state. This is obviously a nice pick-up for the Nittany Lions and defensive line coach Sean Spencer. Dioubate had received visits from some of the big players on the recruiting trail in the spring, with unofficial visits to Ohio State and a later visit from former Penn State assistant Larry Johnson, an offer and visit from Auburn and a visit from Miami. Rutgers was also in the mix as well. Dioubate made an unofficial visit to Penn State in late March and again on Sunday, when he offered up his commitment. Lions 247 reports Penn State extended the offer to their newest defensive lineman back in November.
So how is Penn State doing on its latest attempt to dominate the state? To date, Penn State has commitments in the Class of 2016 from four of the top six players from the commonwealth. that includes offensive tackle Michal Menet (No. 1), running back Miles Sanders (No. 2), Dioubate (No. 4) and center Connor McGovern (No. 6). Penn State has plucked high-end talent from Pennsylvania out of both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia and has started to make inroads in between. Penn State is still supposedly in the mix for cornerback Damar Hamlin (Ohio State is the current favorite). Penn State is also the favorite right now for safety Andrew Pryts from Hermitage, PA. So Penn State is doing quite well in the dominate the state effort, with some work still to be done.
