Despite outfielder D.J. Stewart setting a new school-record for consecutive games reaching base, the player of the week for the week of April 14th-20th goes to starting pitcher Luke Weaver for his efforts on the same night.
In Florida State’s 7-1 victory over Wake Forest on Friday night, Weaver was stellar. Weaver worked all nine innings and allowed just a run on three hits and surrendered just one walk. Weaver was able to strike out seven while notching his second complete game of the season.
With the win, Weaver improved to 6-3 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.83. Weaver leads FSU with 70 innings pitched this season and is the owner of two of the pitching staff’s four complete games. Weaver leads the club with 58 strikeouts as well.
As Florida State gets set for a big week with five games, Weaver will likely get the ball in Friday’s series opener against top-ranked Virginia at Dick Howser Stadium.
