FSU Baseball Player of the Week: John Nogowski

The Florida State Baseball Player of the Week for the week of April 28th to May 4th is a no-brainer. For FSU first baseman John Nogowski, the weekend series against Minnesota was perhaps the best of his Florida State career as the Seminoles swept the Golden Gophers to move to 36-11 on the season.

The three-game series was set to begin on Friday, but rain forced the teams to play a doubleheader on Saturday. In the first of two games, Nogowski was the hero. His walk-off single capped a two-run ninth inning, giving Florida State a 5-4 comeback victory.

After a 3-for-5 effort at the plate that included the game-winning hit in the first game on Saturday, Nogowski outdid himself by going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in the nightcap. Nogowski accounted for four of FSU’s seven hits in a 3-2 victory.

Nogowski concluded the series on Sunday with a 3-for-4 effort that included a run scored and a RBI. Over the weekend, Nogowski went 10-for-13 at the plate for an ungodly .769 batting average. Only two of Nogowski’s 10 hits went for extra bases, but he added three RBIs and three runs scored over the weekend, making Nogowski responsible for six of the Seminoles’ 15 runs during the series.

Nogowski will look to stay hot this upcoming week as he and the Seminoles visit Stetson on Tuesday before resuming ACC play with a three-game series at North Carolina next weekend.
