For a third straight week, the Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week comes on the National Football League gridiron. This week’s top professional athlete from Florida State didn’t get many touches, but made the most of his opportunities.
The honor for the week of September 22nd through the 28th goes to Atlanta Falcons’ running back Antone Smith. Smith finished with 62 yards rushing on just four carries in Sunday’s 41-28 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
After scoring a 38-yard touchdown in a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, Smith scored from 48 yards out late in the third quarter on Sunday to give the Falcons a 28-27 lead. Unfortunately for Smith and Atlanta, the Falcons would not score again as they fell to 2-2 on the season.
While Smith has been used mostly as a reserve this season, the former Florida State running back has 192 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns on just 13 touches. That equates to nearly 15 yards-per-touch.
Smith and the Falcons will hit the road this week to take on the New York Giants on Sunday.
