This week’s Florida State Football Player of the Week goes to an unlikely star. While the Seminoles dominated Wake Forest 43-3 on Saturday in Tallahassee, no player shined brighter than redshirt sophomore placekicker and reigning Lou Groza Award winner, Roberto Aguayo.
After making his first seven kicks on the season, Aguayo was a perfect 5-for-5 on field goal attempts on Saturday with four coming from at least 40 yards out. Aguayo even connected on a season-long 52-yard field goal early in the third quarter. Aguayo also made good on each of his four PAT attempts and had three of his kickoffs go for touchbacks.
Following the stellar performance, Aguayo is now 12-for-12 on the season on field goal attempts and a remarkable 33 of 34 for his career. On 116 career tries, Aguayo has yet to miss an extra point.
Among FBS kickers this season, Aguayo is tied with Houston’s Kyle Bullard for the most makes without a miss. Aguayo is seeking to join another Florida State kicker, Sebastian Janikowski, as the only two-time Groza Award winner.
