Florida State fell behind by double-digits again on Saturday night at Sun Life Stadium and again, the Seminoles found a way to win. FSU outscored rival Miami 20-3 in the second half to walk away with a 30-26 victory, its 26th straight.
At 10-0, the Seminoles have clinched a fourth 10-win season in five years under head coach Jimbo Fisher and a third straight trip to the ACC Championship. As Florida State gets set to close its ACC slate at home against Boston College, the Noled Out staff hands out game balls for Saturday’s victory over Miami.
Offense
Mike Ferguson’s Game Ball: Jameis Winston, QB
Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston again came alive in the second half, leading the Seminoles back from 16 points down. Winston complete 25 of his 42 pass attempts for 304 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The 304 yards passing gives Winston five efforts of at least 300 yards through the air in nine starts this season. With the win, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner improved to 23-0 as a FSU starter.
Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: True freshmen skill players
True freshmen skill players accounted for about half of Florida State’s offense Saturday night. Travis Rudolph led the Seminoles in receiving with 65 yards while Ermon Lane added 27 yards on two catches. Running back Dalvin Cook finished with 110 yards from scrimmage on just nine touches which included touchdown runs of 44 and 26 yards. His 26-yard score with 3:05 to play put the Seminoles ahead for good.
Defense
Mike Ferguson and Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Jalen Ramsey, S
Florida State sophomore safety Jalen Ramsey had just three total tackles on Saturday night, but one went for loss as Ramsey was all over the field. Ramsey finished the night with four passes broken up and the late interception of Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya on fourth down that cemented the Seminoles’ 26th straight victory.
Special Teams
Mike Ferguson and Jon Marchant’s Game Ball: Roberto Aguayo, K
Reigning Lou Groza Award winner Roberto Aguayo was again solid on Saturday night, making good on all three of his field goal attempts and all three of his PATs. Aguayo hit from 37, 43 and a season-long 53 yards out in the 30-26 victory over Miami. The sophomore kicker also had six of his seven kickoffs go for touchbacks.
