After a 1-3 start, Florida State’s men’s basketball team has won consecutive games even without its starting backcourt. For the Seminoles’ recent success, a redshirt freshman guard deserves much of the credit.
The Florida State Basketball Player of the Week for the week of November 24th through the 30th is guard Xavier Rathan-Mayers. In two games this week against The Citadel and Charleston Southern, Rathan-Mayes averaged 21 points, 3.5 assists and a steal.
Against The Citadel on Tuesday, Rathan-Mayes scored a career-high 26 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the field. He wasn’t nearly as efficient on Friday, but still led FSU in scoring for a third straight game, finishing with 16 points.
On the season, Rathan-Mayes ranks second on the team in scoring behind only Aaron Thomas, who the Seminoles hope will soon be joining him in the FSU backcourt. Rathan-Mayes is also second on the team in assists with 3.6 per game — just behind injured Devon Bookert, who averages 3.7 assists.
