The Florida State Seminoles continued to show resiliency this week as FSU bounced back from a 62-56 home loss to Clemson on Wednesday night to defeat Virginia Tech 73-65 on the road Saturday. Florida State was again led by its standout redshirt freshman guard.

Xavier Rathan-Mayes is the Florida State Basketball Player of the Week for the week of February 2nd through the 8th after averaging 13.5 points, 4 rebounds and 6.5 assists in two games.

In Wednesday’s loss to Clemson, Rathan-Mayes paced the Seminoles with 15 points. Rathan-Mayes followed that up with a 12-point effort on Saturday in which the freshman dished out a career-high 11 assists — the most for any Seminole in a contest since Luke Loucks recorded 13 in Florida State’s 2012 ACC Championship victory over North Carolina.

Rathan-Mayes leads Florida State in scoring this season with just under 14 points-per-game and his 4.8 assists-per-game average ranks fourth in the ACC. Rathan-Mayes will look to stay hot as the Seminoles will play games against Duke and Georgia Tech this week.
