FSU Basketball Player of the Week: Devon Bookert

Florida State split a pair of games this past week, falling to No. 4 Duke last Monday before notching a 10th straight win over Georgia Tech on Saturday. Jarquez Smith had a solid week and Xavier Rathan-Mayes bounced back from a dismal effort against Duke to score 20 points against the Yellow Jackets, but his backcourt mate enjoyed perhaps his best week as a Seminole.

Devon Bookert is the Florida State Basketball Player of the Week for the week of February 9th through the 15th after averaging 15 points, 6 assists and a steal for the Seminoles.

In Monday’s 73-70 loss to Duke, Bookert had a career-night, scoring a career-high 23 points and tying a season-high with 6 assists. Bookert hit a new scoring high despite attempting only eight shots from the field — making six including three of his four 3-point attempts. Bookert was instrumental in nearly rallying FSU from behind as the Seminoles cut what was a 14-point lead down to one in the waning seconds.

Bookert was not nearly as good in Saturday’s 57-53 win over Georgia Tech, but he played every minute and once again was the Seminoles’ top assist-man with 6 for the game. Bookert scored just 7 points on 2-for-6 shooting, but knocked down a pair of free throws with under six seconds to play to cement Florida State’s third road victory of the season.

A junior from Alaska, Bookert is enjoying the best statistical season of his career. After missing five of Florida State’s first eight games this season, Bookert has without a doubt been a reason for the team’s improvement after a 3-4 start.

For the season, Bookert is one of three Seminoles averaging in double-figures scoring with 10.6 points-per-game and ranks second on the team with 2.3 assists per contest. Bookert is tied for the team-lead in minutes-played-per-game and tops the team in 3-pointers made and shooting percentage from deep.
