After an embarrassing showing in last year’s NCAA Tournament, Florida State opened the 2015 season with a sweep of Oakland. A number of new faces contributed in the lineup and on the mound, but the star for the Seminoles in the season’s opening series was one of the few seniors on the roster.
Outfielder Josh Delph is the Florida State Baseball Player of the Week for the week of February 9th through the 15th after a big series to open the year as the team’s leadoff man.
Delph went 5-for-10 over Florida State’s first three games with four total runs scored and a team-high six RBIs. In the season-opener, Delph’s eighth inning grand slam busted things open for Florida State as the Seminoles turned a 3-2 lead into a 7-2 lead. Delph drove in a run in each of the final two games of the series as well.
Delph will look to continue to be the spark plug atop the Florida State lineup as the Seminoles visit Jacksonville on Tuesday before heading to Athens to face Georgia for a 3-game weekend series.
