Florida State again found itself in an early hole at home on Wednesday night, but behind a stellar performance from Devon Bookert, the Seminoles rallied to beat Boston College 69-60.
Despite playing a double-overtime game 1,300 miles away on Monday afternoon, Boston College (9-16, 1-12 ACC) came out of the gates sharp, leading 21-10 early. Olivier Hanlan scored 23 of his game-high 32 points in the first half as the Eagles led 32-27 at the break.
After 10 first half turnovers, Florida State (15-12, 7-7 ACC) was able to cut down on the miscues in the second half and took its first lead of the game on a 3-pointer by Jarquez Smith with 14:35. The Seminoles extended their lead to four, but the Eagles answered with a 7-0 run to take a 46-43 lead into the under 12-minute timeout.
Florida State responded with a 12-2 run spurred by a pair of treys by Robbie Berwick, which ultimately allowed the Seminoles to run away with the game and even their ACC record.
Aside from Hanlan’s 32 points, Aaron Brown was the only other Boston College player to finish in double-figures scoring with 15. Patrick Heckmann scored just 2 points, but led the Eagles with 7 rebounds and 7 assists.
Bookert had another efficient offensive night for the Seminoles, scoring a team-high 18 points on 6-for-7 shooting. Phil Cofer and Xavier Rathan-Mayes each added 13 points. Cofer and teammate Montay Brandon tied for a game-high with 9 rebounds. Rathan-Mayes paced the Seminoles with 5 assists, but shot just 3-for-14 from the floor.
A tall task lies ahead for Florida State as the Seminoles visit No. 2 Virginia on Sunday night. Boston College returns home to face Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon.
