Share Your Seminole Story: Most Despised FSU Opponent Outside of Gators, ‘Canes

TimDuncan

In this week’s edition of “Share Your Seminole Story”, we asked our readers which regular Florida State opponent outside of Florida and Miami they despised the most.

From the Staff
In recent years, the annual contest on the gridiron between Florida State and Clemson has been a de facto ACC semifinal, but as someone who has followed FSU sports for over two decades, the answer for me was easy: North Carolina State.

For whatever reason, N.C. State has always seemed to be a thorn in Florida State’s side, particularly in football. From the 1998 contest where the Wolfpack intercepted Chris Weinke six times to heartbreaking losses in 2001, 2005, 2006, 2010 and 2012, N.C. State never seems to be a team the Seminoles can take lightly.

FSU’s national championship hopes were derailed by N.C. State in 2005 and 2012 and in 2001 and 2006, the Wolfpack destroyed Florida State’s ACC title hopes. Florida State’s bad luck against North Carolina State however, is not relegated to the gridiron.

The 2003-04 men’s basketball season comes to mind. The Seminoles finished on the bubble that season and needed just one more marquee win to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998. The Wolfpack beat FSU three times that season including in the ACC Tournament.

Twitter Responses

The ‘Noles have played their fair share of non-conference football games against the Cougars and the Irish.

Not surprisingly, Clemson was a popular pick…

As was N.C. State…

Finding a new team to hate can be difficult…
