Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week: Randy Choate

Baltimore 323

It was a quiet week for former Florida State athletes playing professionally. Neither Brooks Koepka nor Daniel Berger made noise on the golf course. Spring training for Major League Baseball however, is underway and a crafty lefty shined in his first relief appearance.

St. Louis Cardinals’ relief pitcher Randy Choate is the Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of March 2nd through the 8th for his effort in the Cardinals’ Grapefruit League opener on Thursday.

In a 4-1 victory over the Miami Marlins, Choate tossed two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and no walks. Choate recorded a strikeout over his two innings pitched.

Throughout his career, Choate has always been a guy known for his ability to get lefties out. At 39 years old, a strong showing in the spring will be important for Choate to show he’s still a guy capable of retiring big leaguers.
