It was another good week for Florida State’s baseball team as the Seminoles took two of three from a ranked Coastal Carolina team at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles couldn’t complete the sweep, but easily won the first two games thanks partially to their best player.
Junior outfielder D.J. Stewart is the Florida State Baseball Player of the Week for the first time this season after going 5-for-9 with four runs scored, a pair of home runs and seven total RBIs in three games. Stewart was the top FSU player for the week of April 27th through May 3rd.
In Friday’s 16-2 win over Coastal Carolina, Stewart was 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs and 5 RBIs. Stewart homered again the following night in an 8-3 victory over the Chanticleers. He finished Saturday with two hits, a run and a pair driven in.
In addition to the five hits in nine official at-bats, Stewart also drew four walks during the 3-game set including three on Sunday in FSU’s 4-2 loss.
For the season, Stewart leads FSU in batting average, runs, hits, home runs, RBIs and slugging percentage. Stewart and Florida State will visit Stetson on Tuesday before traveling to Louisville to open a weekend set on Friday.
