After D.J. Stewart was picked in the first round on Monday, two other Florida State players went late on the second day of the 2015 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.
No Seminoles were chosen between rounds 2 and 8 on Tuesday, but in the ninth round, catcher Danny De La Calle was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays with the 268th overall pick.
A Miami native, De La Calle hit .251 in 63 games as a senior in 2015. The 6’3″ catcher was third on the team with 8 home runs and added 35 RBIs despite hitting ninth for most of the year.
Left-handed closer Billy Strode was selected one round later by the Cleveland Indians with the 304th overall pick.
After serving as a midweek starter in 2014, Strode assumed the closer role for FSU this past season.
In 30 innings, the lefty posted a 3-0 record and a 1.80 ERA as a senior. Strode entered the Super Regional of the NCAA Tournament tied for the ACC lead with 14 saves.
The 2015 draft will conclude Wednesday with the final 30 rounds. Josh Delph, John Sansone, Mike Compton, Bryant Holtmann and Dylan Silva are among the Seminoles who could hear their names called between rounds 11 and 40.
