Florida State junior cornerback Jalen Ramsey was one of 42 players named to the preseason Jim Thorpe Award watch list Monday. The Thorpe Award goes annually to the nation’s best defensive back.
Ramsey will likely make the move back to cornerback for the Seminoles in 2015 after also playing safety and the star corner position during his first two years at FSU. Ramsey was named an All-American by six different major publications last season including a first-team selection by USA Today.
Ramsey finished the 2014 season with 79 total tackles, 9.5 for loss, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and a pair of interceptions. Ramsey was a first-team All-ACC selection last season and is joined by four other players from the conference on the Thorpe watch list.
They are: Clemson’s Mackensie Alexander, Virginia Tech’s Kendall Fuller, Virginia’s Quin Blanding and Jeremy Cash from Duke. No Florida State player has won the award since Terrell Buckley took home the hardware in 1991.
