Florida State sophomore running back Dalvin Cook has been found not guilty of misdemeanor battery charges. The trial lasted just one day as the verdict came in Monday evening.
Cook was accused of punching a woman outside a Tallahassee bar in late June. Cook’s trial was originally scheduled for September 2nd, but Cook’s Miami-based attorney Ricky Patel motioned for a speedy trial.
“I’m just thankful and blessed that the truth came out,” Cook said. “I know I didn’t commit no crime or do no wrong.”
The trial was covered live by Brandon Sonnone of the Orlando Sentinel, Safid Deen of the Tallahassee Democrat and Tom D’Angelo of the Palm Beach Post as well as FSU sites like Warchant and Tomahawk Nation.

Testimony began after 9:00 A.M. and it wasn’t until after 7:30 P.M. that a verdict was reached. Cook was suspended from the team indefinitely last month after being charged by the State Attorney’s Office. Cook is likely to be reinstated and added that he would like to return to practice “as soon as possible”.
“We said from the beginning that we weren’t going to take any pleas,” Patel said. “If you know Dalvin, the one thing you know is this is completely out of character.”
Last season, Cook became the first freshman in FSU history to rush for 1,000 yards while finishing with eight touchdowns. Behind Cook on the FSU depth chart are redshirt junior Mario Pender and true freshman Jacques Patrick.
The Seminoles open the season at home against Texas State on September 5th.
