This week, we asked our readers to give score predictions for Florida State’s 2015 season-opener against Texas State.

From the Staff

The Texas State Bobcats are a relatively newly minted FBS school, having joined in 2012. Their head coach is Dennis Franchione, who should ring a few bells to college football faithful. The Bobcats compiled a 7-5 record last year, going 5-3 in Sun Belt conference play but weren’t invited to a bowl game which is a crime unto itself.

As with a lot of teams in the lower tiers of FBS football though, they run a spread-option system to help negate talent disadvantages they may have. They are led by one of the top conference quarterbacks in Tyler Jones, who is also a proficient option runner, and return eight other starters on offense.

They will have to lean on that offense though because they lost key players to graduation and injury on defense. A lot of unknown players will have to step up if Texas State is to contend for the Sun Belt title.

As for its opening game against Florida State, the ‘Noles are favored by 30 points. Look for FSU’s offense to be inefficient and sloppy but for talented players to grab big chunks of yardage against inferior athletes. I expect the defense to be the strength for the Seminoles this year and to keep Texas State’s offense largely in check. My prediction: ‘Noles 46-13
