Less than a month remains in Major League Baseball’s regular season and one former Florida State player is doing all he can to keep his team’s dreams of repeating as world champions alive.
San Francisco Giants’ catcher Buster Posey is the Professio”Nole” Athlete of the Week for the week of August 31st through September 6th.
In seven games this week for the Giants, Posey hit .481, going 13-for-27. In Sunday’s 7-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies, Posey scored three runs and hit his 100th career home run.
San Francisco has fallen to 7.5 games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West, but that doesn’t mean Posey hasn’t had an MVP-type season. Posey’s .326 averages ranks third in the National League and he’s tied for ninth in the league with 81 RBIs.

Jose Brizuela, OF (Minor Leagues)
In seven games this week for the Class-A Beloit Snappers of the Midwest League, outfielder Jose Brizuela hit .355, going 11-for-31. Brizuela added a home run, three runs and six RBIs for the Oakland Athletics’ organization during the week.
James Ramsey, OF (Minor Leagues)
In five games for the Triple-A Columbus Clippers this week, James Ramsey went 9-for-18 at the plate. In addition to hitting .500 for the Cleveland Indians’ organization, Ramsey drove in four runs and scored twice.
Luke Weaver, P (Minor Leagues)
He didn’t factor in the decision, but in four innings for the Class-A Palm Beach Cardinals on Friday, Luke Weaver tossed seven innings without allowing an earned run in a 4-1 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads. Weaver yielded just four hits and didn’t give up a walk while striking out six. Weaver has a 1.62 ERA this season in the St. Louis Cardinals’ organization.
