ufc_111_posterUFC Welterweight Title Fight
Georges St. Pierre (20-2) UD 5 Dan Hardy (23-7)
Scores: 50-43, 50-44, 50-45

If you were like most MMA fans out there, you didn’t buy the hype that the tough Dan Hardy was anywhere in the league of one Georges St. Pierre.  Though, it has to be said, there may be no fighter in the welterweight division that is in the same league as Georges St. Pierre.  From the opening bell it was clear who was in complete control of this fight, this was all GSP who seemed to be able to take Hardy down at will.  Though game throughout, Hardy was never in the position to use his TNT powered fists, as it is hard to throw a punch when you find yourself on your back for most of the 20 minutes.  GSP tried to end the fight emphatically, slapping on armbars in the first and fourth, Hardy refused to give in and tap.  While Hardy may have won some new fans with his toughness, GSP once again solidified the claim that he is the best fighter in the game.

UFC Interim Heavyweight Title Fight
Shane Carwin (12-0) KO 1 Frank Mir (13-5)
Time of knockout: 3:48

Shane Carwin has never seen the second round in any of his twelve professional fights.  In Mir, he was expected to be tested past the five minute interval of the first round.  Didn’t happen.  The hulking Carwin controlled Mir in the clinch, and then managed to melt Mir into the canvas with a series of uppercuts.  Mir fought for survival on the mat, but Carwin was undaunted in raining down some serious pain by way of punches that nailed Mir until he was no longer with conscious.  It was a huge win for Carwin who now gets the pleasure of vying for the undisputed heavyweight title against the beast of a man that is Brock Lesnar.
