After a ferocious battle between Josh Luna and John King ended with a TKO in the first at Shark Fights 9, the two decided to do it again at Shark Fights 12. The result was not much different as Luna (5-3) submitted King (1-2) at 1:33 in the first round.

Strikeforce announces Houston event
Strikeforce officials announced during Saturday’s Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum that light heavyweight champ Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal will defend his title against an unnamed opponent in Houston on August 21. No venue has been determined.

Shalorus draws with Varner, Wineland defeats Campuzano loses at WEC 54

In what has become one of the most hotly contested decisions this year, Kamal Shalorus (6-0-2), fighting out of Austin, Texas battled Jamie Varner (16-3-1) for three rounds. After Shalorus had broken his hand and Varner his hand and foot, the judge’s scores of 29-27, 27-29 and 28-28 resulted in a draw.
Shalorus, a former Olympic wrestler, trains in Austin at both Relson Gracie and Competitive Training Center.

This week in Texas MMA: Fighting Back for Children, Vote to bring WEC 54 to Texas Legacy Fights presents: Fighting Back for Children fund-raiser Houston-based promotion
Legacy Fighting Championship is collaborating with Houston Area Womens Center to provide school supplies for children in the Houston area. Supplies can be dropped off at all participating gyms, listed below, until July 31, at which point the first 500 donaters will be rewarded with a free t-shirt.
