A quick look at the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations website reveals a very troublesome fact: there are no pro fights of any kind taking place in North Texas in the near future. It’s a damn shame that the fight-hungry fans of North Texas will be forced to sit and watch as surrounding metropolises enjoy a healthy dose of professional fight cards. Unfortunately, an apathetic fan base poisons the demographic here in North Texas as area promoters will quickly point out. Still, with that being said, hope is not lost for those dedicated fight fans who are thirsty for the chance to witness a professional prizefight live and in person. In fact, tomorrow night will present an awesome night of professional MMA if you are willing to make the three hour trek south on I-35 to Austin.
San Jose-based MMA juggernaut Strikeforce will present its well-received Challengers series tomorrow night from the Cedar Park Center in Cedar Park, Texas a suburb of Austin. The Strikeforce Challengers series showcases up and coming talent in the Strikeforce roster often to the tune of high-intensity bouts. Tomorrow night’s card looks to be no different as it will be headlined by the beastly Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm who will take on Pat “Bam Bam” Healy. Also, co-featured on the card will be Ryan Couture, son of UFC legend Randy Couture, making his second professional fight against Texan Lee Higgins.
“This is going to be a fun, tough, hard fight that I expect will go everywhere,” explained Beerbohm at an open workout at the South Austin Gym earlier this week. “There’ll be stand-up, wrestling, a little but of everything. Pat is definitely an all-around great fighter who is coming off a great performance, but the bottom line is I want to win.”
Strikeforce Challengers: Beerbohm vs Healy will air live on Showtime at 10:00 PM CST. Tickets for the event can still be purchased and are on sale at the Cedar Park Center ticket office, all Ticketmaster locations (800) 745-3000, Ticketmaster online and Strikeforce’s official website.
