Saturday’s UFC 132 in Las Vegas yielded vastly different results for a pair of fighters with North Texas roots.
Arlington-based Team Takedown lightweight contender Shane Roller suffered a debilitating defeat at the hands of Melvin Guillard on the prelim portion of the UFC 132 card. Roller had little success against the surging Guillard and after being floored with a knee, Guillard’s follow up flurry put Roller out.
Also featured on the preliminary card was Garland’s Anthony Njokuani who cruised to an easy three round unanimous decision victory over Andre Winner. The pace of the fight was dictated in the opening round as Njokuani unleashed hell on Winner over the course of the opening five minutes. While the fight could have justifiably been stopped at that point referee Yves Lavigne chose to let Winner try and fight on. It was of little consequence as Njokuani used his Saekson-based muay thai strikes to keep Winner battered and bruised and cruised to an easy decision.
