We’ve been pretty video heavy here at North Texas Fisticuffs over the past couple of days, but it’s for a very good reason: people prefer video to standard writing. It’s an undeniable fact. Plus, when you have an interviewer as unique as our Roland Gamez, well Hell, we would be stupid not to capitalize on it.
Still, in light of our interview heavy mantra, there is some news and notes that need to be relayed to you the fight loving people of North Texas.
– Genesis/Phalanx MMA fighter Randy Villarreal will take on David Fuentes for the South Texas Fighting Championship featherweight title this Friday night in McAllen, TX. Villarreal will look to rebound from his June loss to Jason Sampson. Other North Texas fighters appearing on the STFC card include Mike Sierra and James Vick.
– Speaking of Sampson, the undefeated fighter out of Mohler Jiu-Jitsu will look to continue his undefeated streak when he takes on Travis Marx at Saturday night’s MMA Fight Pit – Genesis taking place in Albuquerque, NM. The card is notable in that it features some pretty big name former UFC fighters which likely mean a pretty high-profile event. Dallas’ own Sean Spencer will also appear on the card and is slated to take on Clint Roberts on the night’s undercard.
– North Texas’ has long held close to a tradition of excellence in the world of amateur boxing and this fact seems to have been solidified with the recent merits of Kianna Richardson. Richardson recently won the 2011 Junior Olympic National Championship in the female 110 lbs division. Richardson, who boxes out of Premier Boxing Club, is only the second female champion to hail from the state of Texas.
– Speaking of amateur boxing excellence, DeSoto’s own Errol Spence Jr. exemplifies boxing greatness. The young Spence, long-held to the standard of greatness, will be on his way to represent the United States at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Spence earned his slot on the Olympic team following his winning of the 2012 Olympic Trials in Mobile, AL last week.
