Jason Sampson Wins Big at Bellator 61

Jason Sampson looked impressive Friday night submitting Austin-based Jeremy Myers in three rounds on the undercard of Bellator 61.  The action was heated early as Myers used some impressive footwork and takedown defense to keep Sampson at bay.  However, the Mohler trained Sampson began to open up his boxing game and was able to land some flush right hands to the head of Myers.  The second round saw Sampson turn up the intensity and despite repeated warnings from the referee for low blows he was able to smother most of Myers attacks.  The fight was nearly stopped at the end of the second round as Sampson was able to take Myers back and rain down some hard flurries to the prone Myers.  Credit to Myers for weathering the storm but his success would be short lived as Sampson was able to eventually slip in the rear naked choke midway through the third round to force Myers to tap.

The official time of the submission was 2:25 in round three.  With the win Sampson improves to 9-1; Myers falls to 3-5.

D-Rock Wins

East Texas’ Derrick Krantz looked beastly in his Bellator debut with a first round D’arce choke of Eric Scallan.  The official time of the submission was 3:01 in the opening round.
