One has to give credit to Jessie Rodriguez and his crew at Premier Fight Series. Despite being based in the far reaches of West Texas the company successfully put on an MMA show with a card that rivals any to have ever taken place in the DFW Metroplex. To come out of relative obscurity and deliver a home run fight card is a credit to their vision and the tireless efforts of their matchmaker Rafael Casias.
Saturday night saw a huge turnout of vocal fight fans descend upon the Fort Worth Convention Center to witness a card that had not only radio and TV promotion, but internet buzz as MMA mega-site Sherdog listed the evening’s main event bout between local fan favorite Chas Skelly and Luis Vega as one of the ten most anticipated fights of the summer.
All in all, ever warrior who entered the cage Sturdy night can take solace in the fact that they gave their blood, sweat, and tears in the cage and delivered a night of memories that the fans in attendance won’t soon forget.
RESULTS
Main Event
Chas Skelly gutted out a three round hard-fought war of attrition over the tenacious Luis Vega. Scores were 30-26, 30-26, and 29-27. Vega was deducted a point in the second round for holding on to the cage.
Co-Main Event
An’Twan Williams weathered a storm of ground and pound to secure a second round arm bar submission victory over Victor Reyna. The official time of the submission was 2:03 in round two.
Undercard
Daniel Trevino looked impressive in stopping Michael De La Garza in the opening round with a TKO due to strikes. The official time of the stoppage was 1:46 in round one.
Quaint Kempf dominated a game but out-gunned Van Vo in route to a unanimous decision victory. Scores were 30-27, 30-27, and 30-27.
JP Cole escaped with a hotly contested unanimous decision victory over Kashif Solarin. It was an extremely close bout but Cole emerges victorious with scores of 29-28, 29-28, and 29-28.
Sidney Cawdrey was able to withstand an early blitz from Tristan Grimsley to pull out a first round rear naked choke. The official time of the submission was 2:31 in the opening round.
Casey Hudson was impressive in submitting the always-game Johnny Wise with a first round rear naked choke. The official time of the submission was 1:26 in the opening round.
In what has to be called the fight of the night, Andrew Parker was able to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat with a last second third round rear naked choke over the impressive Marshall Gorham. Gorham controlled the action throughout the fight bruising and battering Parker over three rounds. However, with four seconds left in the fight Parker was able to latch on a rear naked choke that forced the Gorham tap. The official time of the submission was 2:56 in the third round (fight was 3 x 3 min rounds).
Alex Madrid looked spectacular in submitting Armando Herrera via a rear naked choke in the night’s opening fight. The official time of the submission was 1:36 in round one.
